Many people who are unfit tend to make excuses not to exercise. There are many different kinds of exercises that you can do, and they don’t all have to include running or lifting weights. You may find it difficult at first, but exercising will eventually become easier as your body becomes more accustomed to the activity; this is called adaptation. In this blog post, I’ll discuss how to get fit and what kind of exercise is best for beginners so that it’s a bit less daunting!

What you will learn

How to get fit

Find an activity that you enjoy

It’s important to find an activity that is enjoyable for beginners so it doesn’t feel as daunting of a task or like such a chore. Try something low-impact, like walking or swimming; these are great exercises because they’re easy on the joints but still provide many benefits! Swimming classes are a great option for beginners because it’s easier to learn when you’re supervised and surrounded by people who are in the same boat as you.

Get a friend to exercise with you

Having a workout buddy is key. It’s motivating to work out with someone else and it’ll keep you accountable. Plus, exercise in a group is more fun because you’re working together towards the same goal!

Take your time building up stamina

When you start exercising be sure not to overwork yourself; remember that when we are unfit our bodies need time to recover from workouts. Start off slowly and gradually increase intensity as your body gets used to the demands of exercise. For example, if you’ve just started walking but feel like it’s too strenuous on your joints or lungs then try starting by going for short walks and build up distance little by little until eventually, you can go longer distances without feeling any discomfort at all!

Be good about managing pain/discomfort

Be aware of your pain and discomfort levels and don’t push yourself too far in order to make up for the lost time. If you’re not used to exercising, your body will need at least a few weeks/months before it gets accustomed to the demands of exercise. Remember that building stamina is an ongoing process!

Avoid high-intensity workouts when first starting out

When we are unfit our bodies are more prone to injury so be sure not to do any intense activities until you’ve been able to build up some level of fitness with other, lighter exercises such as walking or swimming. By avoiding high-intensity exercises like running right off the bat, you’ll avoid putting undue strain on joints which could lead to injuries down the road if left untreated!

Keep it fun by being mindful

Making exercise fun will help you stick to it! Find workouts and activities that are enjoyable or at least tolerable. You may want to try biking, running, swimming, yoga, … the list is endless.

Take it easy on yourself

Start by walking and gradually increase the intensity of your workout as you get more fit. You will see progress much quicker if you go at your own pace and don’t try to do too much, too quickly.

Stay hydrated

As a general rule of thumb, drink plenty of water before, during, and after your workouts. Drink, even more, the hotter it is outside since this will increase your body’s need for fluids in order to regulate its temperature!

Work up an appetite

You’re sure to have extra energy post-workout so plan ahead by packing snacks or meals that are nutritious enough to replace what was lost while exercising but also enjoyable. You’ll feel better about going out on those long walks knowing there’s something waiting for you afterward! 😉

Try not to miss any days

Consistency is key when building fitness habits because it will ensure that you get the most out of your workout.

You don’t need to join a gym or anything fancy.  If you’re not able to go for long walks outside, then take those steps at home! And if you can afford it, get yourself an entire set of weights and equipment so that there’s no excuse when it comes time to workout.

Listen to what your body tells you

This goes both ways: If one particular routine is too difficult or something doesn’t feel right during exercise, stop immediately! Use this as an opportunity (or encouragement) to try new things until you find what works best for you. But, also be mindful about listening to your body after-workout because sometimes soreness means overdoing it and should be followed with rest.

Make sure to stretch afterward!

Stretching may seem silly but it’s crucial for recovery!

Conclusion

With all of the information in this blog post, you should have a better understanding of how to get fit. Just remember to listen to your body, try new things, and stretch afterward. Enjoy becoming fit!
